Jacques logged over 6,500 hours of flight time as a pilot. Most as a Captain in the Ferry Command, a unit that delivered B24 Liberators from North America to the European front as part of the Lend-Lease Program

Some of his accomplishments as a flyer included:

  • Delivery of the first aircraft to the nascent Air France, a Dakota

  • Inauguration of the Paris-New York route for Air France in a DC4

  • First French pilot to cross all three ocean routes: North Atlantic, South Atlantic, and Pacific
  • Pilot who evacuated de Castries from Dien Bien Phu as the French defeat was imminent
