Barbara, known as Bobbie, was only 22 when she married Jacques in the US and subsequently gave birth to their first son Jacques Jr.
She came from a long lineage of early settlers to America, dating back to the 17th Century. her extended family tree includes Thomas Payne, Dolly Madison, John Singleton Mosby and Tarlton Payne, a revolutionary soldier who enshrined the family in the Children of the American Revolution.
Before meeting Jacques, at the time an Air France Pilot, Bobbie had already experienced much success as a model being photographed by Richard Avedon and becoming the 'Woodbury Soap' girl, appearing in all their print advertising.
She then embarked on a 12 year journey to France with Jacques, raising their 3 children in Paris, the Riviera and Switzerland while continuing to model for some of France's best known haute couture houses, and appearing in such glamour magazines as Elle and Vogue.
When Remy found himself disillusioned by the French educational system at the Sorbonne, Barbara invited him to move to the US with her where they settled in Washington DC.
Once he finished his MBA, Barbara moved to the Virgin Islands where she lived the island life for many years before going back to Paris when Jacques passed in 1981.
She enjoyed time with Rica, Jacques Jr., and with Remy, who visited frequently from the US where he had decided to make his home. Later came grand children to complete her life.
Beautiful, caring, intelligent and self-determined, she was a pioneer of what women aspire to be today.
